Construction Site Service From the Tech's Phone: Supers, Moving Units and Locked Gates

Construction is the backbone of most porta potty businesses. Contractors rent units for months at a time, service is weekly like clockwork, and one good builder can mean a dozen sites. But construction sites change every week. The gate moves, the units move, the super changes, and somebody parks a lull in front of the door. The driver app keeps up with a moving target.

One Contractor, Many Sites

Construction sites often have High-Rise / Crane units and hand wash stations alongside Standards, as covered in Restroom Trailers, ADA Units and Hand Wash Stations on the Tech's Job Card. They also have something else in common: many sites under one customer. In PortaPottyBossPro, one client can have many job sites, each with its own address, contacts, gate and access notes, and units.

That means the tech at the Oak Ridge subdivision sees Oak Ridge's gate code and super, not the downtown project's. And the office bills the contractor correctly because every job is tied to the right site.

The Super Is Your Best Friend

Every construction site has someone in charge. Put the super's name and number in the site contacts. Note their preferences in the site notes: "Mike wants a text before you drive on the pad," "Check in at the trailer," "No trucks on site during the concrete pour on Thursdays."

Automatic texts can go to the super, not just the billing contact. A super who gets an on-the-way text can move a truck or open the gate before the tech arrives.

Units That Move With the Build

On construction sites, units migrate. They start near the trailer, move to phase two, end up at the far end of the subdivision. Placement notes need to keep up. When the tech finds units in a new spot, they note it and the office updates the placement notes so the next visit goes straight there.

When the super asks for a relocate, that is a service you can charge for. The tech does it, notes it and takes a photo. The office adds it to the invoice.

Your Units Among Others

Big sites often have units from more than one company, especially when subcontractors bring their own. Unit numbers on the job card keep your tech from servicing someone else's unit. Match the number on the door to the number on the phone, every time.

Gates, Hours and Access

Construction sites lock up. Gate codes change, and some sites only open during work hours. Keep gate codes and site hours in the site notes and update them as soon as they change. Route order helps too: sites that need service before crews arrive go early in the day, which the dispatcher can set on the board.

When access fails anyway, the tech skips with a reason and a photo. The office contacts the super and gets the tech back in. For more, see Gate Codes and Site Notes in the Porta Potty Driver App.

Weekly Service That Keeps Going

Construction service is the classic weekly loop. Each site's service has minimum days between visits and comes due on the Waiting List on its own. Most weeks, a construction route is the same loop as last week. That steady loop is where techs get fast, because they know every site.

When a crew grows and units fill too fast, the tech notices first. Passing that to the office turns into a second weekly service or another unit, which the super usually welcomes.

Phases and Partial Pickups

As a build winds down, units come off in stages. Partial pickups pull specific unit numbers while the rest stay. Rental tracking records the picked-up date for the pulled units so the billing stays accurate. A final pickup ends the rental at that site.

Monthly Billing for Contractors

Contractors do not want an invoice every Tuesday from every site. Set the account to Monthly and they get one statement each month covering every job at every site, each line labeled with the site address. Their accounts payable team can match lines to projects, and you get paid on one document.

Photos Protect You on Construction Sites

Construction sites are rough on units. They get tipped by equipment, buried in mud, used as storage and occasionally burned. Photos at every service, plus photos of any damage before touching it, protect the company when it comes time to talk about who pays.

The Short Version

One contractor, many sites, each with its own super, gate code, units and placement, kept current by the techs and billed monthly. For more on the app, visit the PortaPottyBossPro driver and tech app page.
