Roofers and Short Construction Jobs: Fast Porta Potty Drops and Quick Pickups

Short Jobs, Tight Windows

Not every construction customer is a builder with a year-long project. Roofers, siding crews, concrete contractors and remodelers often need a unit for a few days to a few weeks. The job starts fast, the crew is on the roof by 7am, and the unit has to be gone soon after the last shingle goes on.

These customers are a different shape from the home builders in Porta Potties for Home Builders: Running Dozens of Lots on One Account. There are fewer units per site, more sites per year, and much less patience for a slow delivery. Done well, a roofing company can send you dozens of short jobs a season. Done badly, they will find someone else by the second job.

Booking a Roofer Without the Back-and-Forth

Set the roofer up once as a client with a Contractor tag and a card on file. Each house they roof becomes a job site under that client. Because roofers often call the night before, the faster you can add a site and schedule a delivery, the better.

If the roofer finds you online, the website request form and sign-up form send their details to Form Responses, and one click converts a sign-up into a client. If you send a quote, the roofer can approve it online and the approved estimate becomes scheduled services. Either way, nobody retypes the address three times.

Get the placement note right on the first call. Roofers need the unit close to the work but out of the drop zone for old shingles and away from the dumpster. A note like "Driveway, left side, away from the dumpster" helps the driver set it right the first time.

Delivery and the First Day

On the Waiting List, a new delivery shows up as soon as it is scheduled. The dispatcher assigns it to a truck and day, and it lands on the driver's phone in route order with the unit type, quantity, unit number and placement notes. The customer can get an on-the-way text and an arrived text automatically, so the roofer's foreman knows the unit is coming.

The driver takes a photo after placement. On a short job where the homeowner's driveway is involved, that photo is a dated record of where the unit sat and how the area looked when it was set.

Remember that on a roofing job there are two customers on site: the roofer who pays you and the homeowner who lives there. The roofer's foreman should be the site contact, but a note about the homeowner, such as "owner works from home, do not block the garage," keeps everyone on good terms.

Weekly Service on a Short Job

A two-week roofing job may need a single service in the middle, or none at all, depending on the crew size and your own policy. If the job runs longer than planned, weekly service comes due on its own based on the minimum days between visits, so the unit does not go unserviced just because nobody expected the job to last that long.

If a big crew fills a unit fast, the foreman can request an extra pump-out from the customer app or by text, and the office adds it to the board. Extra Pump-Outs on Busy Construction Sites: Fitting Them Into the Week covers fitting those extra visits into a busy week.

Quick Pickups and Rental Days

Roofers finish fast and want the unit gone the same day or the next. Ask the foreman to text or use the customer app to request pickup as soon as the last load of shingles is off the roof. The pickup goes on the Waiting List, the dispatcher fits it into the next route, and the driver marks it complete when the unit is on the truck.

Rental tracking records the delivered date and picked-up date. If the job ran past the days included in the rental, the per-day rate after that is applied and the extra days are added to the invoice automatically. Nobody in the office has to count days on a calendar.

Billing Short Jobs on the Card

Most roofers and small contractors are happy to pay by card. With a card on file, the invoice can be charged when the job is completed or on a schedule, and the roofer gets the invoice without having to call for it. If a roofing company runs enough jobs to want one bill, switch the account to Monthly and they get one statement covering every site that month.

Short jobs add up. A roofer who gets fast delivery, fast pickup and a clean invoice will send the next job and the one after that. See how PortaPottyBossPro handles every type of contractor at construction porta potty rental software.
