Relocating Porta Potties Between Construction Phases
Construction Sites Do Not Stand Still
The spot where the units sat during site work is often where the parking lot goes in. The area next to the trailer becomes a staging yard for steel. As the work moves from one building to the next, or from the foundation to the upper floors, the crews move with it, and they want the units close by. That means relocating units mid-project, sometimes several times.
Each move is a small job, but it is easy to get wrong. If the units move and the records do not, the next service driver goes to the old spot and finds nothing. If the move is never recorded, the contractor may question it later. Like adding hand wash stations, covered in Hand Wash Stations on Construction Job Sites: Booking, Servicing and Billing Them, the answer is to treat each change as its own job.
Make Relocation a Service
Add a relocate service to your service list, priced the way you want to charge for it. Some companies include one or two moves in their construction pricing and charge for the rest. Others charge every time. Whichever you choose, having it on the service list means the office can schedule it in seconds and the invoice can show it when it applies.
When the super asks for a move, schedule the relocate job on the same job site. It goes on the Waiting List and the dispatcher assigns it to a truck and day like any other job.
New Placement Notes Every Time
The relocate job needs the new placement, written clearly: "Move both standards and the hand wash from the trailer to the south side of Building B, next to the gate." Placement notes show on the office lists and on the driver's phone, so the driver knows exactly where the units go.
After the move, update the placement on the site's service so the next weekly visit sends the driver to the right spot. This is the step most often missed. The move itself gets done, but the next service driver reads old notes. Make it part of completing the job.
Many companies schedule a service visit and a move on the same trip. Servicing the units right before moving them makes them lighter and cleaner to handle, and it means the units start in their new spot fresh. If you do this, list both on the job so the driver does both and the record shows both.
Photos Before and After
A photo of the units in their new spot gives the next driver a clear picture of where to go. A photo of the old spot shows that the units were cleared and the area was left clean. Photos taken in the driver app stay with the job, so they are easy to find later.
If the super disputes a move or claims a unit is missing, the photos and the job record together show what was moved, when and where.
Moving Some Units, Not All
Often only part of a site's units move. Two standards go to the new building while the ADA unit stays by the parking lot. Note which units move by unit number, and make sure the placement for the site describes both groups. Unit numbers on the job help the driver confirm which units are in each group.
If the site is growing at the same time, a move can be combined with an addition. Deliver new units to the new area and leave the old ones where they are, or move all of them together. Adding Porta Potties as a Construction Project Grows covers additions.
Talking to the Super
Moves go best when the super is on site and the new spot is clear. Use two-way texting from the office to confirm the day and the location before the truck goes out. A text like "We are moving the units to the south side of Building B tomorrow morning. Is the area clear?" saves a wasted trip.
The customer app lets the super request a move or another service directly, and the request lands with the office. That cuts out phone tag when the super is busy on site.
Billing the Move
If you charge for moves, the relocate service shows as its own line on the invoice or monthly statement, labeled with the site address. Contractors on monthly billing see every move for the month on one statement. Rental tracking is not affected by a move on the same site; the units are still out, and their days keep counting from the original delivered date.
Moves are part of serving construction. Done cleanly, they show the contractor that you are paying attention to their project. For the full picture, visit PortaPottyBossPro construction porta potty rental software.
